Hoodia Gordonii – The Appetite Suppressant

Many people have absolutely no idea what the Hoodia Gordonii plant is, so here we are going to take a look at it a little bit further and increase people’s awareness about it. The plant itself can be found in Namibia or South Africa and is known for the medicinal properties that it contains. It looks a lot like a cactus, having a prickly outer layer to it.

There has been a lot of hype associated with it recently with it being used as an aid for weight loss by many people around the world. Bushmen have been said to have used it when on long hunting trips to keep any hunger and thirst that they may feel at bay. They would eat the plants in order to have these effects.

This made it something that others would want to capitalize on and it is now available in health food stores all over. You can find it in capsules, powder, liquid, and even in tea forms that can be purchased by those who want to find out for themselves the benefits that it has. If there is not a health food store in your area, it is also available through sources over the internet.

No testing as of yet has been done on people. Some has been done on rats and mice though. Rats that were injected with doses of hoodia were found to eat far less then rats that did not receive the injection. Before we can be 100% certain about the weight loss and appetite suppressing qualities that hoodia may have there will need to be testing done on humans.

There has been a case where a newsperson wanted to find out whether or not the information that she heard about hoodia was true or not. This person made the trip to Africa and was taken to an area where the plant was located and tried it out first hand. The taste of it was found to be somewhat like a cucumber and it was not bad.

The results that were found were exactly like the claims of the Bushmen from years ago. Along with this there were no side effects noted either. The thirst and hunger that would normally be felt through the course of a day were not there at all the day that this was done.

Now with this said, we can assume that there is truth to the claims of the appetite suppressing qualities that are in the Hoodia Gordonii. But irregardless of this there needs to be more tests done with the drug to see what other benefits it may have. Sooner or later testing will be done with Hoodia Gordonii to ensure the safety it has for us all. It has been rumoured to be associated with kidney problems. This would make it a definite no no for pregnant women or children to take until there is some evidence to support this either way.

There are always things that will be coming along that will be put on the market in the hopes that people will buy them. This means that as a consumer you need to do your research before jumping in with both feet.
