Incorporating the Five Moral Restraints Into Your Yoga Practice

image

If you’ve begun a serious yoga practice, you’ll want to incorporate the yamas—the five moral restraints—into your daily practice. Interpret the yamas such that you can apply each of the five restraints to your life in a practical way. Consider these five restraints as you go through your asana (yoga poses), and then seek to carry these principles with you throughout the day.

The first yama is ahimsa, or refusal to participate in violence. You might interpret this to mean being kind towards your boss, a fellow employee, another person rushing for the subway, or a family member. It may mean restraining your temper in personal situations, or perhaps in a more global sense, in your attitudes towards entire demographics of people.

Yama number two is the decision to honor truthfulness, called satya. You may interpret this to mean you must always speak the truth, or to kindly speak the truth, or perhaps to seek out what is true and honorable. You may need to learn how to be kind as you speak truthfully, or to hold to your integrity as you face pressure to compromise.

The third moral restraint is the practice of asteya, or determining not to steal from anyone or anything. You may decide you need to return those office supplies, or perhaps give back to your parents who so generously supported you all those years. Another way to use this yama is to decide that you will not take more than you need from others, meaning the world at large and people with whom you interact.

Number four is brahmacarya, which is the moral restraint of moderation. You can practice this by thinking through what extremes tempt you, such as overeating, oversleeping, excessive drinking, or any other way you take too much or indulge too much. If you live within the confines of moderation, you will be able to give to those around you.

The fifth yama is aparigraha, or generosity. This principle leads us to never hoard our possessions, but to give freely, sharing with others in need.

The practice of the yamas leads to enlightenment and fulfillment, as is found throught he earnest practice of yoga.

Tips For Finding Fulfillment In Life

Many people want to feel “fulfilled” in life, and this is one of the biggest issues they deal with - after all, while some people are perfectly content going to work, coming home, watching a bit of television, then sleeping, there are many others for whom this feels like they are missing something in life. One thing that will be extremely important for you to realize if you hope to feel more fulfilled in life is that “fulfillment” comes in a different manner for each person, so while you can certainly follow tips such as the ones below in order to figure out what “fulfillment” is for you, you cannot simply mimic what others have done and expect it to work for you!

If simply “going to work in order to make money” is not enough to make you feel satisfied (that is, if you wish that you could do something you love for a living), the key will be realizing that you actually can do something you love for a living; think of something you love doing, and start doing it – even though you might have to do it in addition to your job for a while, you will eventually meet your breakthrough!

@@CBTEXT;KBEASLEY;Check out the Passionate Business Starter Kit@@!

Another great way to ensure that you are getting the most out of life is spending time around people that you honestly enjoy; identify the people that you have the most fun around, and make sure you are making time each day (or at least each week) to be around them.

Chasing various forms of self-improvement will be another excellent way for you to feel more fulfilled as far as life goes; realize that self-improvement is different from “self-help,” as self-improvement means identifying areas in your life that you hope to improve on, then working to improve on these areas!

Although the necessary steps to reach fulfillment in life are different for each person, there is one thing that holds true for all: Until you start searching for what it is that will make you feel fulfilled, you will never find it – so get started with your journey today, and see where it leads you!

Making The Most Of Your Weekends

If you work full-time, your weekends are a valuable time – a time when you can unwind and relax a bit before you get back to the grind – but many people finish the weekend and return to work on Monday wondering, “Where did the weekend go?” One of the reasons so many people feel this way about their weekends is because they fail to maximize their weekends; while the approach to “maximizing” a weekend will be different for every different individual, here are a few tips for you to keep in mind for maximizing your weekend!

Sleep less: While your weekends can feel like they are tailor made for “getting more sleep,” extra sleep will not only shorten your weekend, but it can also make you more tired; when you get more sleep at night than your body is used to, it can make you feel sluggish, so instead of sleeping more at night, keep the same night schedule and take a short nap in the afternoon to get extra sleep!

@@ADSENSE@@.

Plan events: Your weekends will have a tendency to feel much more empty when you have nothing that you can point to from a weekend, saying “Oh yes, I did [such-and-such] during the weekend.” Make sure you create at least one high point in your weekend by planning an event – even if it is just during an afternoon or an evening – that you will be able to point to later on.

Don’t think about the week: People tend to put a lot of “pressure” on their weekends, thinking about the work week they just came out of, and thinking about the work week they are about to be heading into, and they forget to focus on the time at hand!

When you try these three tips for maximizing your weekend, you should find that at least one of them (and perhaps all of them!) works great for you, and that you can feel more relaxed – and can feel like you are having longer weekends – when you are following these tips.

Preventing Finger Injuries While Rock Climbing

When you go rock climbing, your fingers are some of your most important tools, but because of the way you are digging your fingers into crevices and tight places in the rock, your fingers are also one of the first things that will get damaged when you climb. And even though you might be able to finish your day of climbing before they really start to bother you, you will wish for days afterward that you had done something to protect your fingers so that they did not give you problems in the ensuing days.

image

Taking the time to stretch out your fingers and wrists is an important thing for you to do when you go climbing; you should do this while you are stretching your arms and legs for climbing – holding your arm straight out in front of you and pulling back your fingers.

You can also warm up your fingers and hands before you start climbing by holding a tennis ball in each hand and squeezing for about two minutes apiece, as you will gain more strength and dexterity in your fingers by doing this.

Taping your fingers is another great way to keep them from getting injured; the main fingers you should make sure you tape are your ring and middle fingers, taping above and below the first knuckle on each finger, but you can also tape your other fingers if this makes you feel more comfortable climbing. Make sure you tape your fingers tightly enough that the tape provides support, but not so tightly that you lose circulation.

@@AMAZONWIDGET;rock climbing;1079730@@.

Finally, being cautious with your climbing is the most important way of all to keep your fingers from getting hurt; after all, you can take all these precautions, and you will still end up hurting your fingers if you are trying to use narrow grabs that your fingers barely squeeze into!

It can be easy to forget all about your hands when you are out there climbing, but you will end up regretting it afterward, so make sure you take care of your fingers as you climb so that you can still feel like going out the next time!

Painting Your Own Abstract Expressionist Paintings

Anyone who has spent any significant amount of time looking at abstract expressionist art has probably thought that these “masterpieces” are really nothing more than random drops and splashes of paint spread across a painting – and yet, at the same time, has also probably looked and them and felt that there is more to these paintings than what meets the eye. Of course, if you have looked at such paintings, you have also probably figured you could paint the same thing – and if you have thought that, you have probably been right; before you can paint an abstract expressionist piece of your own, however, you need to understand why these paintings came to gain the recognition and acclaim they did.

When painters such as Jackson Pollock and Arshile Gorky began to come to light after World War II, it had been widely assumed that there was nothing “new” to be done with art – and then, these paintings full of splashes and dribbles not only were something “new,” but they also effectively created a revival in the United States arts scene at the time.

One of the things that really makes abstract expressionist art intriguing is the supposition that these pieces are about nothing but their own self - and yet, most people who look at these paintings are able to see a lot more in them (some sort of deeper meaning or greater purpose) than just drips and splashes.

@@AMAZONWIDGET;abstract expressionism;1000@@.

The key to creating abstract expressionist pieces of your own that not only look nice, but that also seem to be about more than just the painting itself, is to do what is called “listening to the canvas” – which means that, instead of simply dripping and splashing where you feel like it, you should pay close attention to the things you feel the canvas is wanting you to do.

With the abstract expressionist movement no longer a revolutionary part of the art landscape, it is unlikely that you will make piles of money off your own abstract expressionist art; you will, however, have a lot of fun, and you can end up with some great wall decorations for your own home!

Understanding How Much You Should Start Out Investing

When you are first getting started with investing, you will have a lot of questions that you need answered, but while you can find the answers to most of your questions by doing a bit of research, one of the answers that seems to be much more difficult to find an answer to is the question of how much you should start out investing with! While the technicalities and specifics of this question create a situation where there is no definitive and all-encompassing answer, there are some specific rules that you can keep in mind in order to get started with your investing – using the right amount of money!

The rule of $1,000: There are some stocks that you will want to invest more than one thousand dollars in (in fact, there are some stocks that you will want to invest a lot more than one thousand dollars in!), but there are not many stocks you will want to invest less than a thousand dollars in; unless you are specifically advised otherwise (by an advisor you know and trust), plan to budget a minimum of one thousand dollars for each stock.

@@CBTEXT;JUNO323;Learn more about investing with the Warren Buffett Investing System@@!

The rule of 5: In addition to wanting to invest at least one thousand dollars in each stock, you will also want to start out with at least five different stocks in which you are investing; by investing in at least five different stocks, you will be able to diversify your portfolio, creating security for your investments.

The rule of risk: And the most important thing of all for you to keep in mind when it comes to investing – especially when you are first getting started – is that you should never invest more money than you are comfortable losing; even though you will not be expecting to lose money, you should always be aware that this is a distinct possibility!

You will certainly have plenty that you will still need to learn about investing beyond these simple tips, but when you pay attention to these tips, you will have the information you need for understanding how much money to use for your initial investment steps!

Tips For Getting Your Short Stories Published

Any upstart writer has started to realize, at one point or another, how beneficial it will be to have a few publishing credits under their belt. After all, when it comes time to approach agents and publishers, you will look a lot more impressive if you have published stories in well-known publications! But it can be difficult to know how to get started; perhaps you have the stories written already, but the question is, what is the next step?

Actually, there is no magic to the process; for most magazines, you simply send the story in – but only after you know what you are doing! Most publications have submission guidelines for anyone who is interested in submitting a story for publication. If you do not follow their submission guidelines, your story will probably get tossed aside without ever having been read, so make sure you follow these closely.

@@AMAZONWIDGET;short stories;599872@@.

You also want to know exactly what a publication publishes before you submit, so pick up a couple copies if you have never done so before. As you thumb through the publication you are thinking of submitting to, make sure they will want your story in there – and also, make sure you will want your story in there! The last thing you want is a publishing credit to your name that makes you look bad instead of making you look good.

Before you send your story (according to the submission guidelines, of course!), the last thing you want to do is wait. Go about a week without looking at the story at all, and make sure you do not want to tweak, edit, or change anything else in it. There is nothing worse than sending out a story and realizing too late that you should have changed a couple important things!

@@AMAZONWIDGET;publishing;1000@@.

When it comes right down to it in the end, it is all about the writing, and when it comes time for you to approach agents publishers, you can get a book deal even without prior publishing credits. But get a couple stories published with well-known publications, and you will find that your path is made a whole lot easier!

Best Bed & Breakfasts In Maine

Maine is one of the gateways into the country, but it is also one of the great, untouched pieces of the United States. While the weather in the wilderness of Maine can be overwhelming during the winter to all but the bravest explorers, you will actually find pleasant weather in the spring, summer, and fall. And when it comes to finding lovely, picturesque views, you will find more along the coast of Maine than you could find just about anywhere else in the country. When you take a trip to Maine, however – regardless of whether you come to see the beaches, the fishermen and fishing towns, the lighthouses, or the breathtaking fall foliage – you will need a place to stay, and there is no better place to stay in Maine than in the state’s bed & breakfasts. In fact, the bed & breakfasts might be the things most worth visiting, out of all the things Maine is known for!

image

You will find the York Harbor Inn about an hour north of Boston, down near Maine’s southernmost tip. When you stay here, you will be able to experience one of America’s most beautiful bed & breakfasts – a place that Country Living Magazine awarded their coveted “In of the Month” award to. With rooms ranging from $100 to $200 per night, this is a bed & breakfast experience that truly cannot be missed, especially for the price!

For anyone traveling to Camden, Maine – or, for that matter, for anyone traveling near Camden, Maine – make sure you check out the Timbercliffe Cottage Bed & Breakfast. This jewel of a bed & breakfast overlooks gorgeous, serene Penobscot Bay, and the rooms range from about $125 to $165 per night. This is a great part of Maine to see if you want to experience the lobster the state is famous for, and there are plenty of great picture opportunities all up and down this portion of the coast!

Regardless of where you are traveling in Maine, and regardless of the time of year during which your trip is taking place, keep these two bed & breakfasts in mind. You will be able to experience an absolute escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in each place while enjoying tremendous serenity.

Fighting Fevers In Children

It is always never racking when your child is young and running a very high fever. As a mom you can feel very helpless when your child is sick. You have some options to help lower your child’s temperature.

Fevers are actually good. This is how our bodies naturally fight an infection. It is best, when your child is handling the fever, to let it run it’s course. Even a fever of 102 may not be a problem as long as the child is comfortable. There are times though that you will need to address the fever to drop it to a more tolerable level.

Once a fever rises above 102 it is time to really take some action to get the fever dropped a bit. Taking @@AMAZONTEXT;B001E96LOA;childrens Tylenol@@ is a good way to begin reducing a fever. Make sure that when you give Tylenol you use your child’s weight instead of their age because this is much more accurate. Fevers can cause a risk for Reyes disease, which is why most pediatrians recommend only using tylenol.

Another thing you need to do is make sure your child stays hydrated. When your children are sick it is more important to keep them drinking clear liquids like water over eatting food. If you can get your child to drink water you can try alternatives like pedialite or pediasure. @@AMAZONTEXT;B0007XXP7A;Pedialyte freeze pops@@ were some of my children’s favorites. This helps to get the fluids in without the fight.

Taking a warm (not hot) bath can also help to drop your child’s temperature down. You don’t want to drop their temperature too low and make them chilled. Loosely wrap them in light clothing. Over bundling your child when they are sick can actually make their temperature higher.

One last tip for you to consider; when your child is sleeping, and you want to take their temperature use a temporal thermometer or a @@AMAZONTEXT;B003YUFG8Y;noncontact thermometer@@. These thermometers can help to minimize how much much of your child’s sleep you disrupt.
